Hobbs, N.M. – The Central Christian College baseball team opened their 2024 campaign this past weekend with four games down in Hobbs, New Mexico against the University of the Southwest. The Mustangs took the four game series, sweeping the Tigers.
Friday was the first time the Tigers done anything baseball related outside since the start of the new year. Their lack of on field practice showed as the over the course of the weekend, the Tiger fielders committed nine errors.
Game 1, L 15-0
Hitting: The Tigers were unable to get their offense going in the opening game of the weekend. The Mustang pitchers limited the Tiger hitters to no runs on just one hit, with a pair of strikeouts.
Pitching: The Tigers sent senior
Peyton Ramsey to the bump for the season opener. Ramsey lasted four and a third, allowing seven runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.

David Herrera all saw action out of the bullpen in relief of Ramsey.

Hitting: In the second game, the Tigers were able to generate two runs on six hits, five singles, and one double. They pushed across two runs, but left seven runners stranded on base.
Pitching: Jackson Califono made his Central Christian College debut, going two and a third, allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Jordan Ramsey, and Branta Mikulecky came on in relief of Califono out of the pen.

Hitting: In Saturday's opener, the Tigers had their best offensive performance of the weekend, scoring nine runs on eight hits, including four that went for extra bases. The big hit for the Tigers was a two run homerun by
Carlos Gusman in the top of the second inning.
Pitching: Ryan McFarland was on the bump for the Tigers to start day two. McFarland worked the first two innings giving up six runs on three hits with five walks and no strikeouts.
Tristan Castner and
Colt Gniech came out of the pen to work the final four innings. Castner was collared with the loss.

Hitting: In the series finale, the Tiger offense managed five runs on five hits. All five of the Tiger runs came in the 5
th inning on a double and two singles.
Pitching: Cole Hancock was the starter for the Tigers in game four. He went an inning and two-thirds, surrendering eight runs on four hits with five walks and one strikeout.
Robert White and
Kacey Parrett came on in relief of Hancock. Parrett had the best results, giving up one run on two hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
