Whitten's 32 Points Lead Tigers over Sterling in Home Opener

Article by Chad Clevenger
McPherson, Kan. - It was a slow start for Chris Whitten, but once he got warmed up, he was tough to stop. Whitten missed his 1st 5 shots from the field, and once the Sterling College Warriors built a 22-18 lead, Whitten was able to get a long 2 pointer to get on the board. From there, Whitten went on a personal 11 point run of his own, scored 20 points in the 1st half, on his way to 32 for the game and led the Tigers to a defeat of the Sterling Warriors on Friday Night in the Tigers home opener, 90-71, and moving to 2-0 on the season.

It was a slow start for the Tigers as offensively the Tigers were looking for a spark. A timeout called at the 8:25 mark in the 1st half, down 22-18, was that spark the Tigers needed as Coach Romero put the ball in his leading scorer from last year, and Whitten went on his personal run of 11 straight points, and the and Tigers were able to outscore the Warriors 37-9 in the final 8 minutes to lead 45-31 at the break.

In the 2nd half the Tigers were able to grow the lead to 14 after an Andre Shelby put back, and a Whitten 3, but the Warriors were able to cut into that lead, and that is when Jaden Whitten had the Warriors seeing double as he took off from Wichita Falls and landed a thunderous dunk that brought the crowd to their feet, and their mouths to the floor, and slammed 2 of his 9 points in his 1st start of the season for the Tigers. The Tigers were able to get 32 points from Chris Whitten, and 11 each from Malachi Farr, Andre Shelby, and Omari Maulana on their way to a 90-71 win over Sterling.

Key Stat: The Tigers shot 47.1% from 3 point. (11-23).
