McPherson, Kan. – The Central Christian College women's basketball team opened up their final home stand of the season on Thursday night, falling to Southwestern Assemblies of God University 79-56.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, digging themselves a hole in the first quarter 24-7. After that the offense began to find its rhythm, but they struggled stopping the Lions. The teams went in to the locker room at halftime with the Lions up 49-21.
The third quarter, which has consistently been the Tigers' Achilles heel this season, was their best 10 minutes on Thursday night. The Central ladies found their groove on both ends of the floor out-scoring the Lions 19-12.
The final quarter was back and forth with the Lions having a slight edge 18 to 16. Unfortunately the first half deficit was too large, and the Tigers came up short.
By the Numbers
For the game, the Tiger offense went 16-52 (31%) from the floor.
They hit on 7 of 32 (22%) of their shots from beyond the three point arc.
They struggled at the free throw line, making only 17-27 (63%) of their attempts.
The Lions dominated the glass 53 to 33.
The Tigers committed 18 turnovers, while the Lions only coughed it up 11 times.
