Tigers Earn NCCAA Semi-Final Berth with Draw against Carolina University

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Tigers were back in action tonight this time against the Carolina University Bruins. This game was for the last spot in the Semi-Finals which are being held on Friday, December 1st. After their win last night, Central needed just a win or a draw while Carolina needed to win outright to advance.

The game was full of action early as the Tigers struck first in the 9th minute. After a beautiful cross from Drew Schrader, Johnny Rodriguez chipped one just over the Bruin keeper to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. It did not take long for Carolina to respond as they found the net in the 16th minute to even up the game at one a piece. Deadlocked at 1-1, each team showed no signs of slowing down. They each continued to play aggressively as the first half came to a close.

Out of the break, Central stayed on the attack and were unable to convert on multiple opportunities early in the second half. The Bruins would look to take advantage of this by setting up an attack of their own. The Carolina Defense was the main story of the second half as they allowed just two Central shots the rest of the game. Their offense however would not pay it off on the other end. TJ Foster would remain steadfast, not allowing anything to get past him.

Unable to gain any momentum on offense, the Central defense stepped up and were able to prevent the Bruins from scoring the rest of the night. The Tigers were also unable to convert, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw to the pleasure of the Tigers.

Coach Hoxie had this to say when asked about his team earning the last Semi-Final berth tonight, "People ask me all the time about how I get kids to commit to certain ideals, ways of playing, and it has nothing to do with me...it has everything to do with the character that is innate with each one of these boys. Their desire to compete for each other is what creates kings. They are a special group of people. Each one unique, and in their own way, leaders of the pack. I am appreciative to God that he's given them to me for this slice of time. A moment that only He can deliver in retrospect."
"As for the game, obviously only need a draw to advance, I didn't want to set us up for that and invite pressure. We needed to make sure that we were in the right frame of mind to compete at the highest of our standard. To serve others by giving our highest effort, and sacrifice what is remaining. The ultimate act of love in our sport. Therefore, we choose to continue to be us, and that changes weren't really necessary for competition."
"There are loads of individuals that created individual moments that should be mentioned, but this was truly a team performance. We are the bastions of the principles and ideals that we've created for others to mimic. We are BHSMB. It just is."

This draw ensures that the Tigers win Pool C and earn a spot in the Semi-Finals. Going into the Semi-Finals, the four remaining teams are re-seeded. Central drew the #4 seed and a meeting with the #1 seed Westmont College Warriors on Friday, December 1st at 11am CST. The other match-up follows the Tigers game and features the #2 seed Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks against the #3 seed Campbellsville University Tigers. The winner of each of these games will face off in the Championship Game at 5:00PM CST on Saturday, December 2nd. Each of these games will be streamed live on the NCCAA Network.
