Bethany, Okla. – The Central Christian College women's soccer team was in action on Thursday evening, on the road, against the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm, an NCAA division II school, in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Thursday night's game was a late edition to the schedule for the Tigers because the game they were supposed to play Friday afternoon against Arlington Baptist College was cancelled. So as not to lose a game on the schedule, Coach Macharia scrambled and found a willing opponent in SNU.
The Tigers squared off against a quality Crimson Storm side, and the home team came out on top with a 7-2 decision. Katelyn Beckman, the Tigers' freshman goal keeper, was under fire the entire 90 minutes of action. The Crimson Storm fired 32 total shots, and 21 of them were on frame. Beckman came away with 14 saves. The Tiger offense generated nine total shots, and put five them on goal.
SNU scored five goals in the opening half, then added two more in the second frame. The Tigers' two goals both came in the second half. The first goal came in the 63rd minute when Amaleigh Mattison scored on an assist by Hannah Perez. In the 86th minute, the Tigers found the back of the net a second time, this time off the foot of Aliyah Moya from another assist by Perez.
Coach Macharia commented on the loss saying, "It's was a challenge playing an opponent of SNU caliber! The looked better prepared than we were especially in the start of the game when they scored 3 goals in first 10 minutes. We need to get better in the first 15 minutes of games. The rest of the game we expressed ourselves well especially in the 2nd half where the score was 2-2."
With the loss, the Tigers are now 1-2 on the season. They will be back on the pitch on Saturday in a 5:00 pm match up at Texas College, in Tyler, Texas.
