McPherson, Kan. –Saturday ended a tough week for the Central Christian College women's soccer team. After going on the road Wednesday to take on the Sooner Athletic Conference's no. 1 team, the Tigers were home on Saturday to take on the no. 2 team, the John Brown University Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles lived up to their billing, a lightning fast team with plenty of talent and skill at every position. Fatigue showed up early for the Tigers, and they couldn't match the team speed of the Golden Eagles. The Tigers surrendered six goals to JBU in the opening half, then two more in the second to fall, 8-0.
The Tigers failed to register a shot for the first time all season while the Golden Eagles peppered the Tiger goal 33 times. Katelyn Beckman was in goal for the Tigers saving eight of the 16 shots on goal that she faced.
Coach Macharia commented on the match saying, "It was a tough day for the ladies, we started the game slow and almost seemed scared of the opponents. John Brown was good and capitalized on our mistakes, but we were very timid from start. We have to learn the lessons this year that will help in the years to come and surely the lesson learned today is regardless of the opponent's strength, we have to give a fight. We have two games this coming weekend to finish our regular season. We will work hard in practice this week in order to finish well."
The loss drops the Tigers to 4-9-1 overall, and 0-6-1 in the SAC. They will head down to Texas on Thursday for a 7:00 pm match up with Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
