CONWAY, Arkansas – After having an "off-day" game due to forfeit, the Lady Tigers were back in action against the Central Baptist Mustangs of Arkansas.
Tigers hold the slight advantage in the match-up series against the Mustangs at 5-3 before the start of today's match and have been carrying a 4-game win streak dating back to 2014. The Lady Tigers in their last match up dominated at home with a 5-0 victory in 2019 in which Coach
Cole Ouren made his coaching debut. Ouren and the Tigers this time would be off in Arkansas trying to keep the trend going and extend their unbeaten streak.
The first half would be all Tigers as they outshoot the Mustangs 14-0, but the Tigers would only manage to get the ball in the net once, thanks to a goal by
Shaela Leahy which would be the first of her collegiate career. For the remainder of the half the Tigers would hold the slight edge hoping to take advantage of the dominating offensive performance.
Just like the 1
st half the second would start out with the Tigers adding another goal within the first 15 minutes. This time senior
Karla Menjivar would add an insurance goal and net her 2
nd goal of the year to put the Lady Tigers up 2-0 with 30 minutes remaining. The Mustangs although not having much offense would still pressure the Lady Tigers and not give the victory away so easily. In the 73' the Mustangs would have their first goal and cut the lead down to only a goal. Tigers would respond well not allowing the Mustangs to get another shot on goal and continue to be the enforcers as they outshoot the Mustangs 15-2 in the 2
nd half and come away with a 2-1 road win.
Up Next
Lady Tigers will set their sights on Randall University as they prepare their last road trip before coming home for senior night. Kickoff will be 3:00 P.M. in Moore, OK.
Central Christian Quotes
Head Coach
Cole Ouren
"I am proud of the girl's today. This was one of our best performances of the season. We moved the ball extremely well and created positive goal scoring opportunities. This was evident with 29 total shots, 17 of which were on frame. While their goalkeeper came up with some fantastic saves, I felt we were also a little unlucky to not get at least a 3
rd. While we are happy with the result we will now turn our attention to an important week of play prior to the opening of our conference schedule."
"There were a number of positive performances within the team, but we want to highlight
Jordan Meier. She got her first start of the season as she's been coming from an ACL injury and put together a complete performance this afternoon."
