8/31/2021, Dallas, TX — In the sweltering heat of north Dallas, the Tigers go on the road to defeat Dallas Christian College Crusaders 3-0.
With a 12pm KO time Tiger head coach
Aaron Hoxie knew that the conditions were right for an upset. This thought lingered over the game as many chances had gone begging. The closest anyome came off of a set piece when the Tigers had two shots saved off the line.
"So difficult to navigate a motivated opponent and this Texas heat. I was definitely nervous when I saw the two chances cleared off the line and several opportunities squandered. It was difficult to keep our touches pure and that translates to difficult times ahead typically."
The Tigers were finally able to take advantage of their overwhelming possession and break the deadlock. After earning a corner kick with some nifty movement,
Lucas Chirife found
Edoardo Salmaso who smashed his header past the GK. Definitely something from the training ground, as Edo scored the first goal of his career. Hoxie added:
"That goal gave us all a sense of relief and belief. We were able to move the ball more efficiently and our work load increased."
The second half was played in similar fashion to the first half but at a significantly slower pace. The intense heat simply wore out all of the players. Despite playing all 20 players, there wasn't enough to keep the steady pace, and the game got stretched.
In the 60 minute the second goal would finally come.
Arthur Pancoto was able to turn over the Crusader midfielder and he slid a ball into
Drew Schrader's path, who buried it from close range. It was as if the flood gates were about to be opened, when Drew got the games 3rd goal, this time the feed coming from
Parker Garza. Garza found one of the vast pockets of space and simply slipped Drew in on goal, with his shot finding the side panel. Hoxie was obviously pleased, but it was the manner in which the goals were scored that he enjoyed so much.
"The second goal was off of excellent pressure by Arthur. That's something we have been discussing a lot recently, and his hard work in training on his defensive game paid off here. When the team is struggling with the final ball, sometimes it takes some grinding to get it done. Ugly goals need love too. This was also good for Drew to experience the struggle and the joys of overcoming. His two goals were an example of what persevering and staying the course will do."
With the final whistle, the Tigers run their record up to 2-0. Their next opponent is Friday night at Bethany College at 7:30pm. This looks to be a tough matchup and will certainly challenge the players resolve.
