Lady Tigers fall to Evangels in NCCAA Regional Championship

MCPHERSON, KANSAS – For the third time this season the Lady Tigers and Evangels met on the field of competition. The first time was a regular season match in McPherson, in which the Evangels won 3-2. The 2nd match was in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in Oklahoma City in another tight contest with the Evangels edging out the Lady Tigers 1-0. The ladies take the field once again in the NCCAA Central Region Championship back in McPherson, KS looking to redeem themselves and earn an automatic bid to NCCAA Nationals.

MATCH SUMMARY

1st Half
Tigers held the advantage through the first ten minutes of the half, forcing pressure on the Evangels defense, but in the 31' minute the Evangels countered and #7 shot a dangerous ball in the box, with Lizbeth Garcia deflecting it away, but the ball rebounded to #4 of the Evangels and with only a couple of feet and no one in front she knocked in the tap-in to put the Evangels up 1-nil. Lady Tigers kept pressure up on the Evangels with five shots on goal. Tigers and Evangels go to the next half, with a still tight contest.

2nd Half
Evangels strike early, and get pass the Tigers defense to net their 2nd goal of the game, and take a 2-0 lead for the championship. Tigers tried to stay patient despite the two goal difference, but with only 15 minutes left the ladies began to get desperate and frustrated leading to turnovers and wild passes. However, Mariah Godinez at the 10:23 minute mark had a shot in the box that clinked off the post and Evangels lead remained. Tigers continued to show their effort and finally, with 1:30, Alexa Riddle had a 1v1 with the keeper and was able to ruin the Evangels shutout and cut the lead down to 1. Evangels though held off the last chance effort and took the championship 2-1.

TIGER NOTABLES

Alexa scored her 10th goal of the season.
