Plainview, TX - Tigers earn an away draw at Wayland Baptist University.
Central Christian College mens soccer team had a bit of luck go their way in another closely contested Sooner Athletic Conference match. With all of their losses coming by one goal, Coach Hoxie figured it was only a matter of time before something would come their way.
"In all of our games this season we've missed some quality chances and have given up absolute worldies. We got a bit of luck tonight and earned a much needed and well deserved point on the road. Road points are good points."
The Tigers weren't all about defending in this game, which has become the backbone of the team. In the first half, there were several sequences that produces saves from the GK. A couple of sequences where a better touch or decision would have let you an opportunity. Their pressure was effective causing their opponents into frustrating situations. As the half wore on, fatigue began to set in, and the Tigers lost control of the game. However, WBU was unable to break down the back line.
In the second half, the Tigers again had moments where they looked like the better side. Those moments would be sporadic unfortunately. As the half wore on, the Tigers sat into their normal shape and the grind was on. The back line held strong for the majority of the time limiting to long range efforts and crosses. When there was an issue, Tiger GK
Sebastian Herrera showed why his is an All-Conference selection to the tune of 8 saves.
"Sebas kept us in the game today. When things didn't go our way, he bailed us out. Simply outstanding."
In the overtime periods, the game continues its frantic pace. WBU continued to come in waves yet the Tigers held their lines and defended doggedly. Their effort and work rate again on full display, earning the result.
"Our identity is clear and we achieved it again today. The metrics of the game will tell you that it was a one sided affair, but someone forgot to tell my lads that. All these stats don't mean a thing when you don't do anything with it. These boys represented themselves really well again."
The Tigers next match is Saturday at Oklahoma Panhandle University, who sit 2nd in conference after match day 3.
