Dallas, TX – Central Christian Baseball team splits season opener against the Dallas Christian Crusaders.
Head Coach
Stephen McNett and the Tigers were anxious to get the season started as they haven't played an official game since March 10
th, 2020.
The Tigers and Crusaders have quite the history against each other as they have gone 7-7-1 (.500) in their all-time series against one another.
Today, both teams would have their highs and lows. Tiger's would strike first in the matchup and quickly build a nice 10-0 run lead through 3 innings which would lead to an easy game 1 win 15-5, to secure their first win of the season.
However, the 2
nd game would be mostly Dallas Christian, as the Tigers would only be able to score 1 run and the Crusaders would tack on 12 runs in the ball game to tie the series 1-1 heading into the double header tomorrow at 12:00 PM & 2:00 PM.
Head Baseball Coach,
Stephen McNett had this to say on the performance today:
"First off, it was an absolute blessing to be on the field today. We were definitely blessed to be playing baseball again."
"Seven of our eight position players were true freshman or COVID freshman so having the game we had was really a testimony to their true ability. On the mound we were also either true freshman or COVID freshman, so we really had a young group out there."
"
Michael Pedraza pounded the zone all day and was dominant on the mound. He set the tone for us and allowed us to compete as the plate.
Noah Plaisance came in the game and gave us 2.1 innings of solid relief to close the game out"
"Offensively we had a lot of firsts. Freshman
Joseph Esparza had his first collegiate home run in his first at bat.
Michael Falcon also joined him with his first collegiate home run later in the game.
Tim Escamilla and
Julius Sifuentes had very nice games at the plate."
"Defensively
Andrew Araque was solid up the middle making some fine plays deep in the hole."
Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they finish up their 4 game series.
Go Tigers!
