Tigers place 2nd at Central Kansas Classic
The Tigers competed at their home course, Turkey creek, for their second tournament of the season. Turkey Creek is a par 70 that plays 6,338 yards. Five men's teams competed in this year's Central Kansas Classic. The men played 36 holes on day one and 18 on day two.
After round one the Tigers found themselves in second place, six shots ahead of the third placed Tabor. USAO shot an opening 300 to take the early lead. Leading the way for the Tigers in round one was Senior
Trehern McGill. McGill shot an 81 followed by freshman Brett Jelenik who shot 84.
Derek Zuniga had the third best score with an 88. Rounding out the top five was
Mark-David Ostruske and
Cristian Cardiel who both shot an 89. Playing as individuals was Zac Finatri and
Tyler Hoxie. Finatri shot 95 and Hoxie shot 96.
The Tigers improved by three strokes in round two despite having to finish in the dark. Freshman Zac Finatri had the biggest improvement from round one to round two. He shot a career low 78 to improve by 17 strokes. Finatri had this to say about this week's tournament "I would say we struggled out there as a team to start, we were nervous and unprepared but everyone settled in and found their groove. Now we just need to work harder to get better."
In round three the Tigers shot a season low 323 to secure their second place finish. Senior
Trehern McGill had the low score of the day for the Tigers after shooting 76. Brett Jelenik shot a final round of 80 to end the tournament as the overall low scorer for the tigers. His three round total was a 244.
The Tigers will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
